While I was writing an article about gravity batteries in the Pamyłka first issue, I came across an interesting and worthy project - Gravity Light. The light can be useful for Belarus and for Ukraine.

Gravity light is a lantern working because of the weight hung on some height. The weight steadily moves down; and a generator converts gravity energy of the weight to electricity. One hang is enough for 25 minutes of the lantern working time until the weight achieves the ground. The project was invented and developed by Deciwatt startup.

I wanted to buy the device. But the Deciwatt engineers decided to cease production of the light and invented a new solution. This new solution known as Nowlight is much more proficient and can produce light for around 2 hours. Instead of gravity energy, Nowlight uses another more dirty technology based on quick rechargeable lithium-ion batteries. Definitely, I wanted to buy these new lights too but there is not this product (last 4 months) in stock as well as no one knows the precise time when it will be (from our correspondence).

After an idea appeared in my mind: why don’t we create our own similar gravity light? I decided to seek open source alternatives and did not find anything handy and ready to use. But I found the Gravity light patent with expired prolongation, also I found a detailed description of the lantern utilization principles.

What is useful here is the patent was filed in the beginning of 2010s and now not prolonged.

I began mailing with the Deciwatt team. And …. They answered with loyalty. What is more, they are in favor of this light reverse engineering. They also shared 3D-printing blueprints for parts of the light. Also from correspondenсe the they confirm absence of their interest to the potent. It means green light for us.

I am a bit busy right now with already ongoing projects and endeavours. However, in a half year, I will be open for a new deal.

Are you inspired to create gravity light, write me! Maybe we remake Gravity Light, and maybe create something new.

We need (1) makerspace, (2) a bit hardware skills (and modeling) as well as (3) investments (indigogo?). Anyway, I am sure that this task is realistic and attainable. Gravity energy can serve people more.

Падчас напісання артыкула па гравітацыйным батарэям у першы нумар Памылкі я сустрэўся з цікавым і на мой погляд вельмі актуальным праектам - Gravity light - і для нас, і для Украіны.

Gravity light - гэта ліхтар, які працуе за кошт падвешанага груза, які раўнамерна спускаецца з вышыні ліхтара да зямлі. За кошт канвертацыі электрагенератарам патэнцыйнай энергіі груза ў электрычную энергію ліхтар дае святло напрацягу 25 хвілін пакуль груз не дасягне зямлі. Гэты праект вынайшла і нейкі час займалася каманда стартапа Deciwatt.

Я вядома захацеў набыць сабе такую прыладу. Але ў 2019 годзе інжынеры Deciwatt вырашылі спыніць гэты праект і вынайшлі іншае рашэнне.

Новае рашэнне больш эфектыўнае (свеціць 2 гадзіны), але выкарыстоўвае іншыя больш брудныя тэхналогіі - не гравітацыйную энергію, а хутказараздныя літый-іонныя акумулятары. Вядома я хацеў набыць і новыя ліхтары, але пакуль іх няма на складзе і невядома, калі з'явяцца (з перапіскі).

Пасля ў мяне ўзнікла ідэя: а чаму не зрабіць падобныя ліхтары самім. Я вырашыў пашукаць опенсорсныя альтэрнатывы. Не знайшоў нешта зручнае і гатовае да выкарыстання, але знайшоў прасрочаны патэнт на Gravity light і дэталёвае апісанне прынцыпа працы гэтай прылады.

Што цікава, патэнт, які файліўся(заяўляўся) ў пачатку 2010х, зараз не падтрымліваецца.

Я пачаў перапіску з Deciwatt. І... яны вельмі прыязна паставіліся да рэверс інжынірынга свайго рашэння і нават скінулі спасылкі на файлы для друкавання дэталяў Gravity light на 3D-прынтэры. Таксама ў перапісцы яны сказалі, што гэты патэнт больш не будуць падтрымліваць. Карацей, яны далі - зялёнае святло.

Я зараз трохі заняты раней пачатымі справамі і праектамі, але праз паўгады я буду адкрыты для новага дзвіжа.

Вам цікава рэалізаваць гравітацыйны ліхтар, пішыце! Магчыма мы зробім рымэйк Gravity light, а магчыма нешта сваё.

Нам спатрэбіцца мэйкерспэйс, трохі хардвэрных скілоў і інвестыцый (індыгого?), але упэўнены задача пад сілу, тым больш самі стваральнікі вельмі лаяльныя і я лічу, што гравітацыйная энергія можа саслужыць добрую службу людзям.
